Present

The members participate in the MSSUA / MSATE events in the Czech Republic as well as partner events abroad.
They are also active volunteers. The MSSUA / MSATE Committee members from RC Ostrava – Michaela Trnová (President), Libuše Kohutová (Vice-President), Naďa Nováková (Website Manager), Daniela Barnášová.
We have also organized or co-organized the TA’s conferences – e. g. Tools for Professional Development (Ostrava, 2006), Back to Comenius (Přerov, 2007), Crossing Borders (Český Těšín, 2009).

MSATE / MSSUA has been accredited by the Ministry of Education and, as a result, Regional Centre Ostrava holds seminars which are accredited by the MŠMT. We always inform the schools in our region and our members about the programme via email and on the website. MSATE members are entitled to a reduced fee. Each participant receives the certificate of attendance after each seminar. The events are held in Matiční gymnázium Ostrava.

IMAGES OF BRITAIN IN ENGLISH CLASS II - Ivona Cindlerová
In this seminar I would like you to try out a few entertaining activities linking language to culture, and vice versa, as I am strongly convinced that language via culture brings more life into English class. Also, with the help of participants, I am going to decode what the abbreviation CLIL means and how important it is currently for English teachers.

CELTIC AND ANGLO-NORMAN IRELAND – Michaela Trnová
Ireland has had both rich and turbulent history. Within centuries the settlers have left a mark on the landscape making the Emerald Isle unique. In this session I would like to show how the country developed and changed between 9,500 BC and 1700 AD. Above all I am going to concentrate on Celtic and Anglo-Norman Ireland. I am going to introduce a few activities to teach ‘realia‘.

The emerald isle in classroom activities – Michaela Trnová
In my workshop I would like to invite the attendees to talk about Ireland, its history, music, literature as well as traditions. I intend to do various activities, including songs, multiple choice questions, gap filling, excerpts from contemporary literature, etc.

GRAMMAR PRACTICE A BIT DIFFERENTLY – Irena Klečková
Apart from various and varied resource, text and practice books, we, secondary school teachers, are from time to time tempted to try out something different, new to us /no matter how old it might actually be/. The participants looked at a few not so frequently used ways of practising and recycling grammar, like grammar auction, grammar dictation and – creativity having in mind – poem writing.

Every language is closely connected to the lifestyle of people and their culture. The seminar offered a wide range of activities focussed on various aspects of everyday life in the British Isles (e.g. text messaging, Harry Potter, school life etc.), which helped the participants to raise awareness of their values and attitudes.

On October 7 Tools for Professional Development, our joint event with Teacher Development IATEFL SIG, was held in Ostrava. It was also co-organized by the language school in Ostrava, where Tools took place. This one-day event was accredited by the Ministry of Education. The plenary speakers were Simon Gill and Colin Mackenzie. The participants could attend a number of talks and workshops, visit the exhibition of ELT materials or buy ELT materials. They could meet the BC representatives and learn more about the activities of the BC in the Czech Republic and abroad.
